- This is a GLP-1 agonist - and is the active ingredient or drug in Wegovy and Ozempic. Semaglutide is not sold generically at a commercial pharmacy. Weight loss clinicians often work closely with a specialty pharmacy to utilize the generic form of this medication. The advantage of using this generic form from a compounding pharmacy is greater dosing adjustability as concentrations can be tailored. It is often less expensive for the patient and can be combined with B12 for weight loss support. Semaglutider does not come as a pen-injector - rather it is injected with an insulin needle.
- Semaglutide, a GLP-1 agonist, mimics the natural hormone GLP-1, which regulates appetite and metabolism. It helps reduce hunger and increase satisfaction, addressing weight loss challenges by enhancing GLP-1 signaling in the body.
- Semaglutide aids weight loss (averaging ½ to 1 lb per week), reduces food cravings, and supports long-term weight maintenance. If you are experiencing severe abdominal pain or vomiting, it is important to contact our clinic or, in severe cases, report to the Emergency Room. That said, very few patients have reported significant side effect. In rare cases, severe allergic reaction-such as swelling of your face, lips or throat, problem breathing, trouble swallowing or a rapid heart beat, we recommend seeking immediate emergency medical help.
- To reassure you, these side effects are only expected in 10% of the patients. We start with low doses of medication to allow you body to build up to tolerate higher doses if needed. Please do take more than recommended dose as like any prescription drugs.
- Semaglutide injections must be used in accordance with the dosage, usage and instructions provided to you by your prescriber.
- Clinical trials have shown that study participants taking a weekly dose of semaglutide had an average reduction in body weight of 5-15 % of the starting weight loss. This means that if you take semaglutide for a year or more, you may experience up to 15 percent total weight loss—which is great news for those looking for long-term results from their weight loss efforts!
